After being an entrepreneur for more than a decade, I have seen and met many people says that how wealthy they want in their life, how successful they want in their business, how good they want to provide to their family members if they are successful in their career. I have also seen many people claiming that they want to lose weights or quick smoking so that they looks prettier and healthier. All these dreams are nice to have but always difficult to fulfil. I have seen many of them give up half way before they have achieved their dreams.



Why We Do What We Do


When come to taking actions on dreams, many people always fail. Majority of these people fail because they are fear of pain. There are two forces that motivate people to do what they do. First is people do what they do because they are desired to avoid pain. Secondly people do what they do because they are desired to gain pleasure. Usually the avoid pain is the greater motivator than pleasure. If we learn how to leverage on it, we will be successful on all the dreams that we wish to fulfil.

Being Wealthy Dream


One of the most common dreams people wish is to get wealthier so that they can have a better life for themselves and their family members. Therefore people always has the intention to start up a part time business or create additional income. In order to get wealthier, we always need to learn new skills, put in additional efforts and activities beside our regular employment. We will also need to face new challenges along the way and learn how to overcome those challenges. This is the path way usually we need to go through before we can successful and become wealthier. Unfortunately many people give up half way. This is because they avoid the pain that they have to go through. As mentioned earlier, avoiding pain is one of the major motivation factor to stimulate people do what they do. In this example is people choose to avoid the painful activities like learning new skills, additional workload, and etc to become wealthier. They have forgotten that their earlier dream which is to get wealthier.

They willing to give up their dreams by trading off not to face the process of pain if they take action. Avoiding pain is the reason why people give up half way of their dream. In this case they give up their dream of starting up their own part time business before they can replace their employment income. They choose the stay on with their existing employment because they have been very comfortable with their existing environment. This is why the industry always have more employees than employer.

Since avoiding pain is the major motivator for people to take action. If we learn how to leverage on this factor, it will eventually motivate us to the success path. Like my favourite motivation speaker Tony Robbins always say, “We must learn how to use pain instead of having pain use us”.

Another Way Of Looking Things


Another way to look at why we do what we do is how we manage our thoughts. This is because our thoughts lead us to how we feel. How we feels lead us to actions we take and eventually produce the results.

Thoughts ==> Feelings ==> Actions ==> Results

As the above scenario to get wealthier, people always thoughts learning new skills and facing new challenges is difficult. That will leads them the pain feeling. The pain feeling leads them to take the actions of giving up on starting their part time business. Therefore it is important if we learn how to manage our thoughts, we will be able to manage the result that we want.


Managing Our Thoughts Means Managing Our Life


Before we take any actions, we must know our purpose well. Referring to the earlier example, someone wants to be wealthier. We have to be crystal cleared on why we want to be wealthier. For example I want to get wealthier because I want to provide a better education to my daughter.

Once we are cleared on our purpose, we can manage our thought in order to produce the result that we want. As mention earlier, our thoughts lead us to our feeling, and our feeling leads us to the action we take and the actions produce the results.

We also know that the greater motivation factor to lead people do what they do is to avoid pain. We have to leverage on the pain to overcome pain in order to manage our thoughts.

As mentioned earlier starting up a part time business will lead someone to go thought some kind of pain like learning new skills, additional workload, getting some rejections from potential clients, go thought all kind of unforeseen challenges. Those are the pain that we have to go through if we take actions to start the part time business.

In order to leverage on pain to motivate us to overcome the pain of taking action. We have to come out another set of pain list if we do not take action. This set of pain by not taking action must be more painful than the pain of taking action.

For example of not taking action to start up the part time business, I will eventually not be able to fund for my daughter to go for the best education that she wants to go for. Without going through the good education, she may ended up not getting a good career path and she will be suffering by working on low wages employment. Because of all the financial stress she has to go through, she also have difficulty to raise up her own family in the future. All these painful stories can go on and on until you really feel that by not taking actions will be much more painful than taking action. That will lead you to have the feeling of taking actions.

Since avoiding pain is the major motivation factor to lead people to take actions. In this case we will act on taking action because if we do not take action, the psychology pain is much more painful than taking action. This is how we leverage pain to overcome pain.

If we can manage our thoughts correctly, we will have the good feeling. The good feeling will leads us to take appropriate actions that eventually lead us to the results that we want.

Conclusion


As a conclusion, avoiding pain is the major force that motivate people do what they do. If we can come out some pain impact on not taking action is more painful than we take action. We will eventually choosing the path of taking action. Apply this way of managing our thoughts in any kind of dreams that we wish to achieve. Be it on creating wealth, losing weight, quick smoking or drinking, starting a good relationship and many more. Learn how to manage our though well and we will manage our life well.
